Ryan began teaching at Judge in 2022 after a fulfilling career in the private and nonprofit sectors. After undergraduate studies at The Johns Hopkins University, he began his career as a United States Army officer and deployed on multiple exciting overseas ventures in a cavalry unit of the Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps. He switched his Army fatigues for corporate threads to work in the national security sector in Washington DC before entering the technology industry where he managed a semiconductor materials manufacturing plant in North Carolina.

After nearly a decade in the South, he transplanted to California to serve as director of a management consulting practice in San Francisco while teaching graduate courses in business administration. Upon his relocation to Salt Lake in 2010, Ryan led the western division of a private equity portfolio firm before transitioning to the nonprofit world where, most recently, he served as Chief Administrative Officer of Girl Scouts of Utah.

Ryan is an avid student of military history and fan of Appalachian bluegrass music, hockey, and B-level horror flicks. He is passionate about encouraging pathways to US citizenship and teaches English as a Second Language to refugees through the English Skills Learning Center in Salt Lake.

Ryan lives with his wife, Erica, and two children (both current Judge students) in Emigration Canyon. He is deeply grateful to the Jesuit teachers of his youth for instilling in him a love of continuous learning and appreciation for Catholic education.
