Teya Sidberry Becomes All-Time Scoring Leader In Utah Hoops History
As the Yerkovich Gym crescendoed with chants of "Teya! Teya! Teya!" the senior star managed an aw-shucks smile as she fumbled with an All-Time Utah Scoring Leader championship belt akin to something you'd see draped over Muhammed Ali. Moments earlier, she turned a perfect, full-court pass into a gliding layup to eclipse 2,384 points, and with it, every boys and girls high school scoring record in Utah history.
The moment came with just 1:37 remaining against Providence Hall on a Feb. 3 Senior Night game before a raucous crowd. Teya Sidberry, a University of Utah women’s basketball signee, was mobbed by teammates then recognized for officially breaking the state’s high school basketball scoring title, set by Julie Krommenhoek at American Fork in 1994.
Sidberry and the Girls Basketball team have a playoff run to make and a State Championship in their sights. She's sure to add to the point total, perhaps making the record untouchable. If you were there, or saw it, you know what a special moment this was for Teya, her family, and Judge athletics. And it will be memorialized in Yerkovich Gymnasium forever.
