Dr. Dasch Houdeshel has been a member of Judge Memorial’s Science department since 2013. He teaches Oceanography, Astronomy, Forensic Science, and Zoology.

While a sophomore in high school, Dr. Houdeshel's Spanish teacher organized a trip to Mexico, where he was required to put into practice what he had learned in his classes. The experience for him was one of the most memorable of all his high school years. He hopes to inspire his students in a similar way through place-based and activity-based learning as his most memorable teachers inspired him.

Whenever possible, his classes experience science in many creative and unconventional ways. It is not uncommon to find his students constructing and setting off rockets or bowling in the hallways while testing conservation of momentum. Biannually he arranges a summer Oceanography trip to Catalina. “I love sharing the latest in environmental science with my students.”

Dr. Houdeshel shares the following quote when approaching the unpredictability of life:

“In rafting, it's not if you flip — 'cause everybody flips at some point — it's how you recover.”

— From some old raft guide
