The Year
The Marycrest yearbook was dedicated to Sr. Louise Marie Fischer for her “true Christian spirit, one of giving happiness to everyone. Through Sister, we have learned the value of suffering – that it can be a constructive force in our lives.”

Helping to plan Student Council activities were Victoria Mefford, religious chairwoman; Pam Razzeca, cultural chairwoman; and Peggy Arentz, social chairwoman.
The Pep Club was led by Ann Crandall, Mary Schubach, Kerry Yanni and Cynthia Colosimo.
Betsy Mates was the head cheerleader, teaming with Patricia Thomas, Patricia Bruce, Mary Beth Davidson, Joe Thompson, John Bailey, Bill Brown and the head boy cheerleader, Mike Donovan. The Junior Varsity cheerleaders were Kerry Yanni, Diana Sabol, Kristine Fassio, Michele Everill, Robb Carter, Jeff McKenna, Jeff Wright and Jimmy Freeman.
Betsy Mates was crowned Queen at Homecoming, whose theme was “Crimson Glory.” Bob Barber was king. Senior attendants were Deirdre Stephens and Dave Guilliame. The junior attendants were Ann Crandall and Mike Vaculin.
Pat Tezak was president of the Model United Nations Club. Jan Worsley and Sr. Agnes Imelda presented a cake baked by club members topped with flags of the U.N.’s member nations.
Glee Club members performing solos at the St. Cecelia Day program were Beverly Sawaya, Peggy Arentz, Kathy Heath and Chris Eckroth. Members were Genie Heiser, Patty Moore, Sue Hession, Peggy Arentz, Mary Sue Clement, Kathy Uzelac, Anne Chambers, Josette Devlin, Vicki Moll, Krista Pickens, Alana Halliday, Dorothy Allen, Cynthia Colosimo, Sandra McKillip, Kerry Yanni, Pam Razzeca, Victoria Long, Virginia Russo, Camille Cheadle, Roberta Jewett, Margaret Skanter, Barbara Roser, Jane McGill, Kristine Fassio, Mary Hutchings, Beverly Sawaya, Roseanne Colosimo. Gael Duffy, Linda Sharp, Mary Kay Reid, Mary Beth Davidson, Norma Bridgewater and Georgia Gaviotis, the accompanist.
Leading the German-French Club were Jane Ringholz, Eleanor Hoyt, Kerri Howa, Debbie Noffs, Lori Phillips and Valerie Myntti. Imgarde Bourne was the moderator.
The Latin-Spanish Club was led by Consuelo Trucios, Madeline Wesson, Kathy Wilcox, Paula Stringham and Jane Reid. Sr. Duane was the moderator.
Senior members of the National Honor Society were Monica Colosimo, JoAnn Galloway, Pam Grubaugh, Michele Guss, Karen Hayes, Mary Kay Reid, Patricia Thomas, Lidia Wasowicz and Mary Lou Williams.
The Literary Club was led by Catherine Clement, Debbie Piercey, Barbara Roser and Kathy Heath. Members included Mary Attey, Georgia Gaviotis, Teresa Crumbo, Pilar Gorlinski, Joan Pratt, Pam Razzeca, Mary Sue Clement, Nancy Frugoli, Cris George, Kris Bayha, Polly Fitzpatrick, Peggy Praught, Carol Ravarino and Gayle Sadler. Sr. Helen was the advisor.
Judge and St. Mary’s students Carlos Bussell, Eileen Brown and Rose Mirabelli were pictured in The Tribune in mid-November getting ready for a national CYO meeting being held in Salt Lake City.
Serving as models for various Utah retailers were Pam McDonough, Mary Beth Davidson, Mary Schubach, Patricia Bruce, Kerry Yanni, Francie Roser and Joann Goodwin.
Overseeing activities of the Red Cross Club were president Kathy Bray, vice president JoAnn Galloway, secretary Charlotte Mates and treasurer Kristine Fassio. Sr. Elizabeth was moderator.
Leaders of St. Mary’s unit of the Traffic Safety Council were Tara Wennerstrom, Patricia Thomas and Betsy Mates.
Officers of the Future Homemakers of America Club were president Sandra Vance, vice president Susan Petrick, secretary Delila Nak and treasurer Claudia Meldrum. Members included Norma Bridgewater, Cindy Rafferty and Marianne Arambel. The moderators were Sr. Beatrice and Barbara Mika.
Ski Club events were coordinated by president Mary Beth Davidson, vice president Peggy Arentz, secretary Pam McDonough and treasurer Victoria Long.
Royalty at the Spring Prom, held at the Hotel Utah with the theme “Scarborough Fair,” were Queen Peggy Arentz and King John Wilson. The senior attendants were Monica Colosimo and Paul McGill. The junior attendants were Debbie Nourse and Roger Dean.
The St. Mary’s team of Mary Lou Williams, JoAnn Galloway and Monica Colosimo defeated a Judge squad of Mark Swanson, Bill Cassun and Jack Jensen 100-98 in The Salt Lake Tribune’s Inquiring Editor program. A question the boys couldn’t answer about a quote from Sen. Everett Dirksen decided it.
“Through Rose Colored Glasses” was the theme of the Senior Prom in the Lafayette Ballroom at the Hotel Utah. Mary Beth Davidson and Bob Barber were crowned queen and king of the prom. Their attendants were Betsy Mates and Pat Aloia.
Nancy Hernon and Ross Caputo oversaw a night of gambling, called “Casino Royale.”

“Sinister House,” starring Patricia Gareau, Kerri Howa, Irene Desmond, Patricia Thomas, Cecelia McGlone, Carolyn Corisis, Roberta Lynch, Therese Russo, Deirdre Stephens, Francie Roser and Irene Elizondo.
Sports
Peggy Arentz was head drill mistress of the Pep Club. Carla Ausick was her assistant. Sr. Louise Marie was the adviser.
Graduation
80 graduates on June 1 at the Cathedral of the Madeleine.
